6 Common Makeup Mistakes That Make You Look Older

‘Less is more’ comes as a rule of thumb when it comes to applying makeup, especially on mature skin. You might think that as your skin gets older you need to apply more and more makeup. To hide the fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation - just to name a few. In reality, this can be really counterproductive, and lead to common makeup mistakes that can easily make you look even older than you are.

Here are 6 common mistakes women make when they put on their makeup and how to avoid them.

Not Preparing Skin Properly

When you don’t prepare your skin for makeup, you can expect that all your flaws will be even enhanced. A good quality serum and moisturizer with an SPF is what you need to make a good foundation base.

Using Too Much Foundation

When you choose a foundation for your skin, try to keep it as sheer as possible. Foundation that is applied all over your skin, especially in the thick layer will sink into the pores on the skin and make them even more visible. Spot correct only where you think it is really necessary.

Adding Even More Powder

If you think powder foundation on top of liquid foundation will help, you are wrong. It won’t help either. More precisely it will emphasize wrinkles, especially those around the eyes and lips. The solution? Setting your concealer and foundation with blot papers or tissue. That is how you will give them time to sink into the skin nicely.

Forgetting About Brows and Lashes

There is nothing that will make you older more than neglected and sparse brows and lashes. Always think like this - fuller brows and lashes mean a younger-looking face. You can also use an eyelash curler to make your eye look bigger.

Applying Too Many Shimmery Products

When it comes to your eyes, it is smart to avoid shimmery eye shadows. Instead of powder formulas, switch to creamy ones and make sure to apply matte eyeshadow. You can also use eyeliner pencils instead of liquid liners. The liquid liners tend to look too harsh on more mature skin.

When it comes to blushes or bronzers you can use both. Just make sure they are creamy and in the right shades. The creamy formulations will provide that dewy glowy skin look.

Choosing The Wrong Shade of Lipstick

Since the lip line fades with age it is important to use a clear lip liner. This will keep your lipstick in place, protecting it from bleeding and feathering. When you choose the lipstick shade, make sure to pick a neutral one. Don’t go too bright or too dark. Neutral is the best way to go.
