6 Reasons Why Your Skincare Routine Isn’t Working

You got your day and night routines all sorted out and bought all those products that were popping out online. However, something isn’t working. Believe it or not, your skincare routine can really stop working for you. Dull skin and dry patches can certainly appear, even if you think you have all those products that you need.

Here are the reasons why your skincare routine isn’t working, as well as what you can do about it.

Your Skin Has Changed

Sometimes it is not about the products but more about your skin. Your skin can become accustomed to your current routine, or simply change due to other reasons. When you are using a certain skincare routine for a while, certain ingredients are more like feel-good to your skin. Use products for at least three months to see results.

Due to season or other reasons your skin can become oily or drier. Also, hormones can make your skin more acne-prone.

Your Hormones

Drastic lifestyle changes or an unhealthy diet can make your hormones go crazy. This can lead to changes in your skin, from increased sebum production to acne. You can control your hormones, if you assume they are the reason for skin changes and try to eat healthily.

Skincare Products are Not Penetrating Enough

How do you know if you have chosen skincare products of good quality? If their ingredients penetrate deep into the skin that is how their magic happens. However, sometimes you can think that they are not penetrating enough due to the barrier that is created on your skin.

Dead skin cells, makeup residue, and other impurities can actually stop skincare ingredients from penetrating the skin. Regular exfoliation as well as taking off makeup before bed are two things you need to do and not skip.

The Weather Changed

Changing your climate can have a huge effect on your skin. During winter the air is dry, so the humidity is much more needed. This can lead to dry and flaky skin. On the other hand, harsh summers can lead to excess sebum production and sweat.

Consider changing your skincare routines for both winter and summer. Use heavier ointments and creams in winter but go for something lighter in summer. When choosing the skincare formulations have humidity in mind.

You are Not Layering Products Right

You can find all those right products for your skin. But if you are not using them right, that can become a problem. When you create your skincare routine it is important to know in which order you are applying them.

After cleansing, you should apply products from the thinnest to the thickest formulations. Meaning serums and boosters can penetrate right into your skin without fighting against heavier formulas. When layering products, make sure to leave enough time for each product to dry before applying the next one.

You Are Mixing Wrong Ingredients

Even though you might think the more products you put on your skin the better, it is not always like that. Some skincare ingredients just don’t get along with each other. If your skincare routine isn’t working, this might be the reason why.

Retinoids are one of the ingredients that are not tolerating other ingredients. For instance, they can’t be mixed with AHA, BHA, or benzoyl peroxide. If they are mixed you can experience redness and irritation.
