How to Take Care of Oily Skin: 5 DIY Masks Recipes That Help

Targeting and controlling oily parts of your face might be hard. Yes, we are talking about that famous T-zone: forehead, nose, and chin that get oily so fast. What can we do to treat oily skin and how to minimize that excess oil? We have the answers.

New Year is the perfect time to accept your little flaws, oily skin, maybe a bit dryer hair, and think about a natural approach to dealing with these problems. We suggest these masks that you can make at home. You probably have all the ingredients in your kitchen already. Let’s start.

Cucumber, Egg White, Mint, and Lemon Juice Mask

How it Works: Cucumbers are perfect for soothing irritated skin, due to their cooling properties. They also can work miracles on removing that excess oil from your face. Thanks to Vitamin A in egg whites it can tighten your skin, while citric acid in lemon juice will naturally balance your skin’s pH.

How to Make it: The cucumber should be well mixed and blended with other ingredients. For one mask use a cucumber, one egg white, one teaspoon of lemon juice, and freshly chopped mint.

Use your fingers to apply a mask and let it sit for 20 minutes. Inhale the freshly chopped mint and cucumber mix. Rinse off with warm water followed by cold water for that extra circulation.

You can use this mask once a week, and if there aren’t reactions you can expand to three uses weekly. If your skin is irritated try to put the mixture in the fridge before applying it to your face.

Honey and Apple Mask

How it Works: Although fruit, in general, is perfect for skin masks, apples are great for oily skin complexions. They are full of AHA, including glycolic acid as well, alongside all vitamins and minerals. Apple will gently exfoliate the skin and clean all the pores. Honey has great anti-bacterial properties, it is perfect for fighting that excess sebum.

How to Make it: Make sure to remove any seeds from the one half of an apple and blend it into a puree. Combine it with one tablespoon of honey. Apply to your face and wait until the mask is completely dry. Wash off with warm water.

Aloe Vera, Lemon and Honey Mask

How it Works: Aloe vera and honey both have soothing and anti-bacterial properties. That is why they are great for people with oily skins. However, they are very gentle and won’t scrub all the natural oils that you have on your face. Because that is not actually the point. Meanwhile, lemon juice will balance your pH, even the skin tone with its astringent properties.

How to Make it: Make a mixture of two tablespoons of honey, one tablespoon aloe vera, and one tablespoon lemon juice. Use your fingers to apply this mask and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

This mask is gentle so you can use it daily. If you notice any reactions, not just with these DIY maks, but with any, stop using them and consult your dermatologist.

Oatmeal and Warm Water Mask

How it Works: Oatmeal is a great ingredient not only for the breakfast bowl but also for face masks. The oats have the power of treating acne and soaking the excess oil that can be found on the T-zone. Oatmeal can calm inflamed skin, and do a gentle scrubbing off dead skin cells due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

How to Make it: For this mask to work you will need a cup of oatmeal and warm water. Slowly add water until you get a nice paste that is ready to apply on the face. You can then massage your face for as long as it is pleasant for you and wash it off with warm water.

How it Works: This mask/scrub is great for oily skin. It will remove all those dead skin cells that can make your face appear dull and with excess oil. Honey will also soothe the irritated skin, while coffee does a gentle yet effective pilling.

How to Make it: You will need a tablespoon of both honey and coffee for this mask. Combine everything in a bowl. Apply the mixture on the face by using your fingertips and gently massage it for 2-3 minutes. You can leave the mask until it is completely dry and rinse with warm water.
