These 6 Things Make Your Skin Breakout and We Will Tell You All About Them

Everyone knows that eating a lot of sugar can cause face breakouts. However, there are a few sneaky clear-skin saboteurs that you might not be aware of that are causing acne to appear or your face to be irritated and inflamed. From pillowcases to certain skincare and makeup products - these are 6 things that make your skin breakout without you knowing the right reason.

Your Smartphone

Your smartphone is something you use daily, whether you are using it for work or pleasure. When you talk with somebody, your phone is rubbed against the skin, picking up all the bacteria, makeup, and dirt, and then you use it again and again. If you are on your phone a lot or making a lot of calls, make sure to clean it every few days. This is how you will keep bacteria levels low. You can use alcohol-based wipes and clean the screen. Do this with everything that comes in contact with your skin - eyeglasses, earphones, and makeup brushes.

Your Pillowcase

You might not think about it, but your face spends at least seven to eight hours a day rubbed against a pillowcase. This means that you are lying on accumulated bacteria, dirt, sebum, and dead skin cells. What you can do? Change your pillowcases regularly, and wash them at higher temperatures to kill the bacteria that can eventually cause the problem with your skin breakouts.

Certain Skincare Products

Believe it or not, certain skincare products are on the blacklist from dermatologists. They are known to cause skin breakouts and are notorious for your pores. Furthermore, some ingredients in skincare products can cause these skin concerns to happen - mineral oil, lanolin, and wax are just some to mention. Dermatologists say always to look for non-comedogenic products and to avoid oily thicker formulas if you have any skin concerns like acne or inflammation.

Your Makeup Products and Makeup Tools

One of the most common myths is that you can’t wear makeup when you have acne-prone skin. However, not removing that same makeup in the evening before going to bed is a big mistake. This can lead to acne actually appearing and your face to break. When you leave your makeup during the night, the dirt and bacteria cause pores to clog. Make sure to use a proper cleanser in the evening and to thoroughly clean your face before going to bed.

Your Fingers

Keeping fingers away from your face is hard, right? When you see a pimple you get that uncontrollable desire to pop it or squeeze it. You need to know one thing - that won’t make acne go away. On the contrary, these bad habits will only make your face look worse and look inflamed. Acne lesions are inflammatory and they present a high risk for scarring. Instead of picking up your acne at home, go to your dermatologist and let him or her do it instead.

The Sun Exposure

Sun tanning doesn’t only increase the risk of cancer but it can also trigger skin breakouts, especially if you have oily or acne-prone skin. Sun in combination with heat and humidity can cause oil glands to become overactive which eventually leads to breakout. Choose an appropriate sunscreen that won’t clog pores, and that is non-comodogenic and oil-free.
