6 Homemade Face Masks for Acne

Face masks, especially those made with natural ingredients, are very effective in treating any kind of acne. While there are many masks on the market, it can be a bit overwhelming when you need to choose the one that will suit your skin. On the other hand, you can make an excellent face mask at home. Believe it or not, most of the ingredients that can be used in masks are already hidden in your kitchen.

Acne-fighting face masks can work on balancing your skin, therefore preventing acne from appearing. Whether you have a common problem with acne or they appear due to stress, these masks should help you feel and look better. Let’s dive into the recipes.

Turmeric & Honey Face Mask

A turmeric acne mask might be one of the most popular masks that you can DIY. It works as an antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory mask, which is perfect for soothing acne-prone skin.

Ingredients:

  • Apple cider vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • Milk

Apple cider vinegar should go first. You apply it to a cotton ball and swipe it all over your face. In a bowl mix honey and turmeric, but wait for at least 5 minutes before applying to your face. Let the mask sit for about 20 minutes and rinse with warm water. If it appears to you that turmeric left yellowish traces on your skin, use milk and cotton ball to go all over those areas.

Baking Soda & Honey Face Mask

Baking soda is an excellent anti-inflammatory ingredient. When combined with soothing honey and lemon for exfoliation, the result is a perfect acne face mask.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon lemon
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Add all ingredients into a bowl and mix well. Apply on your face and neck with your fingers but don’t rub it. Avoid the eye area since the lemon can tingle. Wash the face with warm water after 15 minutes.

Word of caution: Since lemon is photosensitive, apply this mask in the evening and use sunscreen when going out the next day.

Clay and Apple Cider Vinegar

Clay is known among people with acne as it draws out impurities from clogged pores. On the other hand, apple cider vinegar promotes healthier skin by removing dead skin cells and making acne disappear.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon bentonite clay
  • 1 probiotic capsule
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

First, combine clay and probiotic in a bowl, and then add apple cider vinegar to create a paste. Apply the mask to your face, using your fingers. Spread it over and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with cool water and don’t forget to apply a moisturizer afterward.

Milk & Garlic Face Mask

Garlic works perfectly as an anti-inflammatory ingredient, while at the same time preventing clogged pores and killing bacteria. The lactic acid in milk does a gentle exfoliation, which is great if your skin is oily with acne.

Ingredients:

  • 1 clove of garlic, minced or crushed
  • 1 teaspoon jojoba oil
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk

Combine garlic and jojoba oil first. This will dilute garlic so it won’t sting when applied to your skin. Then add milk gradually until you make a smooth paste. Wear this mask for 10 minutes, then gently exfoliate before rinsing off with warm water.

Avocado & Lemon Spot Treatment Mask

Cell regeneration is important for people with acne-prone skin. Avocado stimulates collagen production and is full of anti-inflammatory hydrating fats. Lemon lightens the skin, while honey has antibacterial properties.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • Half of a lemon

Mash the avocado until it is completely smooth, then add honey and squeeze half of the lemon juice. Apply this mask as a spot treatment, or to larger areas where acne appears. Leave for 5-10 minutes and rinse off. Be careful with lemon if your skin is sensitive.

  • 2 drops of tea tree oil
  • 1 egg white

Whip egg white and then add aloe vera and tea tree oil in a bowl. You can apply this mask with either fingers or a face brush. Leave for 15 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water.
